Our Investment Criteria

Focus

HFC seeks to invest in innovative companies that offer enduring shareholder value, generate excellent financial returns, and demonstrate a commitment to operating excellence, market leadership, and personnel empowerment. HFC places emphasis on the skills and qualifications of the management team by empowering leadership that is intensely committed to achieving the objectives described in a business plan, which should be a blueprint for building the company, rather than simply a sales tool for raising capital. While HFC’s investments have spanned numerous international markets, industries, and sectors all have been keenly innovative and responsive to emerging industry and market trends.

Evaluation

HFC looks for well developed business plans that include a rigorous analysis of the venture’s key attributes including:

  1. the concept and mission statement
  2. the market opportunity, marketing strategies, and sales projections by product/service and market
  3. the technical opportunity including technical capabilities and objectives, and output capacity and constraints
  4. management's philosophy and approach including resumes and key managers, employee empowerment strategies, and job descriptions
  5. the financial characteristics of the venture including financing needs, the proposed use of funds, and financial projections

Commitment

HFC cultivates effective working relationships with portfolio companies based on mutual respect, shared goals, and realistic expectations. For its part, HFC makes a long term commitment, helping early and later stage investees through the growing pains they often encounter. HFC ensures the transfer and correct application of industry specific technical and marketing expertise while supplying the business planning, financial, legal, and tax intelligence essential to expanding value. This know-how helps portfolio companies better meet world-class performance standards in terms of quality, speed, cost, and flexibility – all important operational attributes that increasingly determine a company’s success in competitive global markets. HFC also helps with identifying management and executive personnel, accessing additional capital through other venture partners, as well as arranging public offerings of stock.
